Boulder council backs off Arizona resolution

The same day the federal government mounted a legal challenge of a controversial Arizona law designed to crack down on illegal immigrants, the Boulder City Council generally backed away from a resolution that would denounce the state's law and instead moved toward calling for reform of national immigration laws.

Several council members said Tuesday night that they may have acted hastily on May 5 when they supported a late-night request from a group of concerned residents, who asked the city to take a stand against Arizona's crackdown that gives police the power to check the documentation of anyone they suspect to be in the country illegally.   More -
