The Colorado Republican Party sought late Thursday to tamp down speculation that GOP leaders were maneuvering to find a new gubernatorial candidate after front-runner Scott McInnis, a former congressman, was caught up in a plagiarism scandal.
Party Chairman Dick Wadhams released a statement saying that Republicans would stick by the results of the Aug. 10 primary and wouldn’t attempt to put a substitute candidate on the ballot. “Hundreds of thousands of Colorado Republicans will vote in the primary election to determine our nominees for every office from county comimssioner to U.S. Senator and Governor and that is how it should be,” he wrote.
Asked in a subsequent interview whether he expected the party to rally around McInnis if he wins, Wadhams said tersely: “If he’s our nominee.” - More -
