Republican Scott McInnis overwhelmingly won his first re-election to the Colorado statehouse at the height of the Reagan Revolution, yet he vowed to remain just right of center.
"I'm not going to be more conservative," he told a local newspaper in 1984. "I will continue to act in a moderate position."
Twenty years later, he left Congress with a voting record more conservative than 85 percent of the 435 members of Congress, according to the National Journal. A Washington Post voter database shows he voted with his party 95 percent of the time. – More -
