Though Bennet has mostly stayed positive in his messaging and television advertising, his campaign distributed a leaflet – arriving in mailboxes this week – that accuses Romanoff of supporting a plan to privatize Social Security.
At the same time, an anti-Bennet group is also wielding the entitlement program as a political bludgeon, attacking the incumbent for voting against a cost of living increase for seniors.
At issue in the Bennet flyer is a 2004 Colorado House resolution, which Romanoff backed, that urged Congress to let younger workers invest a portion of their income in personal retirement accounts to “keep the Social Security system solvent.”
Bennet’s mail piece highlights Romanoff’s vote, warning: “Andrew Romanoff’s risky privatization plan would have made Wall Street rich, but could have gutted Social Security. Andrew Romanoff, he risked Social Security once. Why risk sending him to the U.S. Senate?” - More -
