Andrew Romanoff doesn’t want your pity, he wants your money!

Andrew Romanoff sent out an e-mail to his supporters Tuesday thanking them for their hard work and inviting them to a “thank-you party,” and all he wants them to bring with them is their checkbooks.

Romanoff would like a little help paying off his campaign debt — which, by the way, includes the $325,000 he personally lent to it.

Dear Friends,

When I decided to run for the U.S. Senate 11 months ago, I knew the path would not be easy. I am and always will be grateful to the friends who joined me along the way. Your unflagging support made this journey worthwhile.

While we fell short in the end, our grassroots effort exceeded many people's expectations. The credit for our success belongs to an exceptionally hard-working staff, an incomparable team of volunteers, and thousands of generous donors. To each of you, let me offer my heartfelt thanks.

I would also like to answer two of the questions I've gotten most often over the last few days:

First, I don't need an air mattress, a futon, a spare bedroom or a basement. Neither does my dog. We (and by "we," I mean mostly Zorro) have gotten a lot of kind offers — which I appreciate very much — but we're not out of our house yet.

Second, our campaign did incur a debt. I need your help to retire it. The most you can contribute is $2,400.

That limit includes any money you gave us during the primary. I hope you'll join me at our thank-you party next Thursday, August 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at our headquarters (2223 S. Monaco Pkwy., Denver). An invitation will follow separately. In the meantime, please accept my gratitude and my very best wishes.    Andrew Romanoff
