His opponent, Andrew Romanoff, sold his Denver home and cashed in his personal savings to loan his campaign $325,000 in the last few weeks. Romanoff's campaign used the money from his loan to finance television ads attacking Bennett.
A poll taken last week shows Romanoff neck and neck with Bennet in the Aug. 10 primary.
A Bennet spokesman says the senator's personal loan was meant as a gesture to show that Bennet is willing to match Romanoff.
