In a press call late Friday morning, Craig Hughes, campaign manager for Democratic U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, said he believes his candidate’s background and legislative focus will win over a lot of business groups that could be a key swing vote in the coming election.
Four hours later, the AFL-CIO put out an announcement stating that national secretary-treasurer Liz Shuler would be in Denver Saturday morning with Bennet to rally union volunteers in advance of the coming vote.
Business’ chosen candidate, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce-backed Jane Norton, lost the GOP senatorial primary last week to Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck, leaving some Democrats believing that they could win over the influential community that usually backs Republicans. To do that, though, Bennet is going to have to tread very carefully when dealing with big labor or else face the criticisms that sprang forth immediately from Buck’s campaign Friday. – More -
