Markey calls Gardner a hypocrite

Betsy Markey's campaign is accusing her Republican challenger of “hypocrisy” for saying that industries aren’t successful if they rely on government subsidies, even though his family has benefited from federal agricultural subsidies.

Speaking at the opening of the Logan County Republican Party headquarters Aug. 2, Gardner was asked whether he would support subsidizing alternative energy development. He responded that if an industry needs to be subsidized to be successful, he questions if it is succeeding, according to an Aug. 6 story in the Sterling Journal-Advocate.

He has made similar comments about government energy subsidies during the campaign.   – More –
