At Pueblo's Summit Brick & Tile Co. on Tuesday, McInnis gave the senior executives a blackboard talk on his economic and budget strategy.
If elected, he would try to limit the state's participation in expanding federal program funds. He warned that when Congress authorizes more money for Medicaid health insurance for the indigent, ultimately the state has to increase its share of spending as well.
"Raising taxes is the wrong way to go," he said. "We can't tax our way out of this recession."
State agencies overseen by the governor would be put on "zero-based" budgeting, meaning no budget program would automatically be renewed without review, he said.
"And we can't cut our (Department of Corrections) budget," McInnis said. "There are truly bad people behind bars in Colorado. They deserve to be there." - More -
