State Rep. Scott Tipton fought off a strong challenge from political newcomer Bob McConnell to win the Republican primary re-election in the 3rd Congressional District on Tuesday.
Tipton, who represents Mesa County in the Legislature, held a 56 percent to 44 percent edge to defeat McConnell, the former Army Ranger and lawyer who was carried into the primary on the strength of Tea Party activists, including the endorsement of the Pueblo-based Southern Colorado Tea Party.
Tipton now moves on to a rematch against incumbent U.S. Rep. John Salazar, D-Colo., who defeated him in 2006. – More -
