Colorado Secretary of State proposes changing the primary election date

Secretary of State Bernie Buescher says the state would be better off if the primary were held earlier in the year preferably in June - instead of August as it is now. That would allow for plenty of time to go through accuracy and logic testing on ballot questions and candidates. The ground work for possibly switching dates started today with a meeting of his Best Practices and Vision committee.

"The topic on the agenda for them is to review the calendar, to review all of the time frames and statutory deadlines and try to make them work better," says Buescher.

Buescher says he hopes to have a proposal to present to lawmakers when the legislature convenes in January.   More -
