The first-term Democratic representative from Fort Collins can feel the Republican wave coming, but she remains confident that she can hold on to her seat in Colorado's predominantly Republican Fourth Congressional District -- in what would constitute one of the biggest surprises of the 2010 midterms.
Walking and talking to voters in Loveland Thursday night, Markey noted that, although the political headwinds have shifted in the past two years, the issues that matter to voters have not.
"It's about jobs and the economy," she said. "It's what I ran on two years ago, and it's what I'm talking about again this year."
But with the economic recovery has been slow; and Democrats, who now control Congress and the White House, are likely to shoulder much of the blame at the polls. Markey, who also voted in favor of health care reform, understands that a lot of voters are angry.
