Buck and Bennet butt heads in Pueblo

From the war in Afghanistan to the Democratic health care legislation, Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet and his Republican challenger Ken Buck argued over national policy, votes and even quotes Thursday night in a raucous hourlong debate at Centennial High School.

Bennet, the appointed Democratic incumbent, trails in several recent polls and he accused Buck, the Weld County district attorney, of changing his positions on Social Security and other issues, depending on the audience. Buck denied it, calling that a deliberate distortion.

Buck charged that Bennet's television ads were dishonest, taking snippets of Buck's comments to portray him as wanting to privatize Social Security. Then he offered Bennet an olive branch of sorts, saying Bennet knew what it was like to be a target of distortions.     More -
