Michael Bennet’s Jewish heritage and his position on the NYC Islamic center

The following is an excerpt from Politics Daily:

What religion was Michael Bennet born into?

Bennet's father is a Christian and his mother is Jewish. "I was raised with two different heritages, one was Jewish and one was Christian," Bennet has said. "I am proud that both heritages are part of me.." His maternal grandparents and his mother escaped from Poland during the Holocaust.

What is Michael Bennet's position on the Islamic center planned for near the World Trade Center site in Manhattan?

When asked by a Denver newspaper, Bennet's campaign released a statement that said: "Freedom of religion is one of the most cherished traditions in our Constitution and our history. Michael believes this is a decision for New Yorkers to make and hopes a site can be chosen that alleviates the current tensions and is sensitive to the memory of September 11th."

Is Michael Bennet concerned that his agnosticism will affect his campaign?

"I'm not concerned about that at all," Bennet said about his atypical heritage. "I think we've moved beyond that in our politics."
