Boswell concedes to Riesberg in House District 50

Republican House District 50 candidate Bob Boswell conceded defeat Saturday in his bid to unseat Democrat Jim Riesberg.

Though a final vote count in the race that saw the two candidates separated by about 300 votes is not yet complete, Boswell said the spirit of good sportsmanship dictated he concede.

“It's obvious looking at the numbers that the remaining ballots would have to swing very definitely more than the rest of them had for it to alter the outcome,” he said. ”There really seemed to me to be no reason to carry this any further.”

Boswell issued a release Saturday morning in which he congratulated Riesberg on the victory. Riesberg said the two spoke briefly by phone. Riesberg said Boswell congratulated him on the win, and he thanked Boswell for the call. The final vote count is not yet known. Weld County Clerk and Recorder Steve Moreno said he hopes to finish counting votes Monday.

Riesberg said though the election was the closest race he has ever won, he said the vote count looked good and he has been confident since last week he would win.   - More -
