Democratic Leader Sal Pace disturbed by House committee name changes

Colorado’s House Democrats, soon to be in the legislative minority, are disappointed with yesterday’s Republican edits to House committee names. The Democrats were joined in their criticism by a prominent labor official.

The GOP took the word energy out of the House Transportation & Energy Committee; the words human services from the House Health & Human Services Committee; and the word labor from the Business Affairs & Labor Committee.

“These are troubling deletions,” House Democratic Leader Sal Pace said in a statement. “With the removal of the words like labor and human services, I’m concerned that working families and the neediest among us, including children who require protective services, are being shunted aside for special interests.”

Both parties have altered committee names from time to time as their political fortunes have changed.   More -
