Gov. Bill Ritter announced yesterday that he has appointed Weld County Court Judge Timothy G. Kerns of Greeley to the District Court bench in the 19th Judicial District. The appointment is effective Jan. 1.Kerns has served as a county court judge since 2007. Prior to that, he was a member of Furman, Kerns & Bauer in Fort Morgan, Erie, and Boulder, a member at Crespin, Kerns & Furman in Fort Morgan, pro bono counsel for the Lend-a-Lawyer program in Fort Morgan and general counsel to U.S. Title in St. Charles, Missouri.
Judge Kerns earned his B.A. from Central Methodist College in 1991 and his J.D. from University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1994.
The initial term of office for a District Court judge is a provisional term of two years. Thereafter, if retained by the voters, District Court judges serve six-year terms with an annual salary of $128,598.
