Romer to ‘officially’ announce his candidacy for Denver mayor

State Senator Chris Romer will add his name today, to the ever growing list of people who are running for Denver mayor.

It is rumored that the Denver Democrat and son of former Gov. Roy Romer, will also announce his resignation from the state Senate.

Romer had previously announced his ‘intent to run’ earlier this month when he filed paperwork with the city clerk to explore running.

Others who've who have filed with the Denver Clerk and Recorder's Office to run for mayor include; Doug Linkhart, Michael Hancock, Danny Lopez, James Mejia, Ken Simpson, Michael Forrester and Dwight Henson.

  1. Romer's crusade against medical marijuana so dominated the 2010 legislative session that important legislation was never even introduced. Why would Romer waste his and the General Assembly's time on medicinal cannabis when our state is on the verge of economic disaster, and then run for Mayor in a city that has twice voted to legalize adult possession of cannabis? He believes that the Denver elites' rejection of cannabis will somehow win him the election. Based upon the voters' failure to connect the motivations which caused them to vote for cannabis with their choice for Mayor, he may be right. Consider the sorry case of John Hickenlooper -- his defiance of citizen-initiated ordinance 38-176 (making enforcement of the state statute against possession the City's lowest law-enforcement priority) didn't hamper him being elected Governor; Romer hopes to do the same. Denver and Colorado have real problems; we don't need an investment banker who hijacked an entire session of the Legislature to obsess about medical marijuana to be Mayor of a City which wants to stop harassing adults for cannabis entirely -- just say "no" to Romer for Mayor!
