Coffman names new General Counsel and Military Legislative Assistant

Congressman Mike Coffman of Colorado on Wednesday announced two new additions to his Washington, D.C. team. Colorado native Mary Woodard joins the staff as General Counsel, while retired Marine Colonel Greg Akers will serve as his Military Legislative Assistant.

“I am very excited to have Mary and Greg on board,” Coffman said. “Their unique experience and backgrounds in both the public policy arena and the U.S. military will undoubtedly be a huge asset to our office.”

Before being tapped by Coffman to serve as his General Counsel, Woodard had her own legal, regulatory and government affairs practice where she focused primarily on natural resources issues. Prior to that, Woodard worked as a policy advisor to Colorado Gov. Bill Owens.

Retired Col. Greg Akers served in the United States Marine Corps for 29 years before withdrawing from active service in 2007. After retiring, Akers worked as Director of Veterans’ Affairs at the University of Colorado.
