Gallagher announces for Colorado Springs mayor

City Council member Tom Gallagher announced his candidacy for Colorado Springs mayor Thursday afternoon in front of a group of enthusiastic supporters.

Gallagher, 49, who was once homeless, said he decided to run after several people asked him to do so, saying he was the only one that was speaking for them.

Gallagher said when he looks at Colorado Springs he sees a city in decay and that it's time for government to admit that they've made mistakes and start making some real changes.

"If you find yourself in a hole, stop digging the hole. We will only make it worse if we continue to pump people into the system because it just increases the obligations and the liability. It's gonna kill us now, why would we make it bigger?" said Gallagher.

Gallagher’s entry brings the number of Colorado Springs mayoral candidates to 11.
