Monday Senate Republicans took a stand against unfunded mandates, both at the federal and state level with Senate Joint Resolution 11-005. Sponsored by Senator Ellen Roberts, R-Durango, the resolution calls on the federal government to refrain from creating any new unfunded mandates to be passed down to state or local governments. The resolution also states the General Assembly will not create new mandates on local governments without providing adequate funding. “It’s time we take a stand against unfunded mandates,” said Senator Roberts. “Whether they are coming from Washington or Denver, we need to end the top-down approach that mandates policies without the revenue needed to implement them.”
