House Bill 11-1036 ‘Public Safety’ Passes The Senate

House Bill 11-1036, sponsored by State Senator Steve King, R-Grand Junction, passed the Senate Monday with unanimous support. “This is an important public safety measure designed to alert people when a violent criminal is on the loose,” said Senator King.

House Bill 11-1036 uses the pre-existing Amber Alert System to notify the general public when a violent criminal has seriously injured or killed a police officer and is being sought by authorities.

“The brave men and women in law enforcement are what protect the average person from seeing the worst side of humanity,” said King. “We have an obligation to notify the public when a violent criminal has escaped capture by wounding or killing a member of our law enforcement community.”
