Sen. King’s public safety bill signed into law

House Bill 11-1036, sponsored by State Senator Steve King, R-Grand Junction, was signed into law Thursday by Governor Hickenlooper.

“I am honored to be a sponsor of this important legislation,” said Senator King. “Public safety needs to be a top priority for the General Assembly.”

House Bill 11-1036 uses the pre-existing Amber Alert System to notify the general public when a violent criminal has seriously injured or killed a police officer and is being sought by authorities.

“The public deserves to know when a violent criminal is on the run after seriously injuring or killing a police officer. This bill will give them the necessary resources if an officer finds themselves in this tragic situation.

HB 11-1036 passed unanimously in the Colorado House of Representatives and Senate.
