Coffman’s Statement on the agreement to keep the government open

U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CD6) released the following statement this weekend in response to the passage of a 5-day extension of government funding to give appropriations negotiators more time to hammer out the details of an agreement that was reached to cut $39 billion in federal spending and fund government through the remainder of the fiscal year.

“I voted for the 5-day extension and I will vote for the $39 billion in cuts to the remainder of this fiscal year because I believe that it is the best that we can realistically get. At least the debate in Congress, unlike the last two years, is now about how much to cut spending instead of how much to increase it.

“The 2010 election was about stopping President Obama and his liberal allies from passing anymore of their radical agenda and the Republican-controlled House has managed to do that. However, it will take another set of election victories in 2012 to completely dismantle what they have previously passed,” Coffman said.
