James Mejia announces the ‘Buy Denver Initiative’

Wednesday, Denver mayoral candidate, James Mejia announced the ‘Buy Denver Initiative.’ The initiative would support local business in the Denver Metro Area by having the City of Denver give preference in their procurement process to local vendors.

At the press conference Mejia said:

“When I am Mayor, I will change Denver’s procurement requirements giving preference points to locally owned businesses. When the City of Denver awards bids on contracts they are awarded on a points basis. an element of this points system will be points for Denver companies much in the way points are given to Minority and Woman owned businesses. For the majority of the City’s needs there are companies in Denver who can provide the necessary products and services and the City, through our procurement process must support these businesses.”
