Rep. Scott Tipton: “The troops are not a political chip to be played”

Yesterday, the House passed H.R. 1363 to continue uninterrupted funding for our troops for the remainder of FY2011 while cutting $12 billion in spending over the next week. Rep. Scott Tipton’s (R-CD3) statement follows:

“Congressional Democrats punted on passing a budget last year and are attempting to do it again this year. Not only have Democrats failed to offer a plan to get our country off the path to financial ruin, they are obstructing the efforts of the House to cut spending, create jobs and get our economy back on track.

“If the government were to shut down tomorrow, under the current rules, our troops in harm’s way would see an interruption in their pay. The thought that our men and women in uniform would be paid retroactively, when they are risking their lives now, is unacceptable to me.

“The troops are not a political chip to be played. The Senate and President Obama have no reason not to follow the House in passing this bill.”
