The Lafayette City Council voted Tuesday night to appoint John Buechner, a former University of Colorado president and former Boulder mayor, to fill a vacant seat on the council. The council voted 4-2 in favor of Buechner's appointment, with his supporters saying that his long history in Colorado politics and academia made him the obvious choice.
But two council members decried what they perceived as a virtual coronation of a well-known public figure. They said Buechner should have submitted to an interview process before being handed the seat. – More -
