Ritter's top staffers leaving as Governor’s time ticks down

Lame-duck Gov. Bill Ritter has lost five top staffers since he dropped his re-election bid in January, and another department head is leaving next month.

At least two appointees have said their decisions had nothing to do with Ritter leaving office in January.

Deputy chief of staff Stephanie Villafuerte, who resigned June 1, begins a new job Tuesday as executive director of the Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center.

She said the center was going to make the announcement Tuesday but word got out early.
