State Sen. Angela Giron, D-Pueblo, was sworn in Thursday at the Colorado Capitol. Giron was selected by a Democrat vacancy committee to take the CO Sen. District 3 seat vacated by former Sen. Abel Tapia who resigned to head The Colorado Lottery.
“I am proud that a Latina—a daughter from a blue-collar family—can grow up to be a leader in our state. We have so many unique skills and perspectives. We all come from many different places but I believe we have more in common, including the bettering of our community and the bettering of Colorado,” Giron stated.
Giron’s experience includes her work as a Congressional Staffer in the offices of both Senators Ken Salazar and Michael Bennet.
Sen. Giron will face Republican candidate Vera Ortegon in the November general election.
