The Colorado Primary Season Is Over… So What Did We Learn?

Yesterday’s election brought to an end one of the strangest primary seasons that Colorado has ever seen. There were high heels and cowboy boots, a DPS scandal, a home sale, a UN bicycle plot and let us not forget ‘ Water-Paper Gate.’

We even had a contest of the Presidents between Obama and Clinton in the guise of the Bennet – Romanoff campaigns.

So what did we learn from all of this?

1) Vote by mail has certainly changed the timing of when a candidate should turn up the heat on his or her opponent. Both Norton’s “Buck Said What” and Romanoff’s “Big Business Bennet” tactics would have had a greater effect if they had been used earlier, before so many Coloradoans had already voted.

2) President Obama still has a little mojo left, at least with the Democratic base.

3) PAC money and 501(c) groups are great things to have behind you if you are running for public office.

4) Insiders can become outsiders when the need arises.

5) If you are going to copy something and pass it off as your own, be sure to use the Joe Biden style of plagiarism rather than the McInnis. You’ll be far more successful at it.
