Denver mayor Bill Vidal?

Bill Vidal, deputy mayor of Denver and the city’s director of public works, could serve as interim mayor if the polls hold true and John Hickenlooper is elected governor of Colorado in November.

If Hickenlooper is elected governor and steps down as Denver mayor after Nov. 24, a special election can be avoided and Vidal would serve as interim mayor until the end of Hickenlooper’s mayoral term on July 18, 2011, according to a memo from the Denver city attorney’s office.

George Merritt, spokesman for Hickenlooper’s gubernatorial campaign, said Hickenlooper intends to remain the mayor of Denver through the Nov. 2 election. If he fails in his bid to become governor, Hickenlooper will stay on as Denver mayor and consider seeking a third term in that office.    – More -
