Governor Ritter using pot fees to help reduce Colorado’s budget deficit

As a former Denver D.A., Bill Ritter prosecuted those who profited from the sale of marijuana. Now he’s one of them.

Ritter is using the 9 million dollars that has been collected from medical marijuana card registrations to help reduce the states 60 million dollar budget deficit.

"With this money we looked at a cash fund balance that is pretty significant and are utilizing that for our own balancing purposes," Ritter said.

Colorado expects upwards of 150,000 applications by the end of the year. The registration fee for each card is 90 dollars per year.
