Rock the Vote, the youth-voter engagement nonprofit, is planning to rock the hardest in five crucial states before the 2010 midterm elections: Colorado, Florida, Ohio, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
Rock the Vote officials said in a conference call Tuesday that since May, the group’s coordinators and volunteers had been organizing voter-registration drives and get-out-the-vote events as well as voter-registration drives at schools in the target states.
President Heather Smith said that Colorado was chosen because of its large pool of potential young voters.
“We looked at where the laws are in our favor, where they facilitate voter participation among young people,” Smith said. “Colorado was really high in our places this year because they just instituted online voter registration.”
