Cook Political Report - Colorado’s Third Congressional District a “Toss Up”

The Cook Political Report has changed it’s rating of Colorado’s Third Congressional District race between Republican Scott Tipton and Democrat John Salazar from “Lean Democrat” to “Toss Up.”

“In pro-Republican years, turnout goes way up on the deeply conservative Western Slope around Grand Junction and down around more Hispanic and Democratic Pueblo,” said the Cook Political Report of its rating change.

"We’re very pleased with these results. They confirm what we already know to be true – voters of the Third Congressional District are fed up with high unemployment, ballooning national debt and an ever-burgeoning federal government at the hands of John Salazar,” said spokesman Sean Walsh. “Scott Tipton’s message of leaner government and lower taxes will continue to resonate across the district,” he added.

Rep. Salazar did not comment.
