Plan to save Colorado’s capitol dome to be finalized today

The legislature’s Capital Development Committee will give final approvals Wednesday for plans to raise $8 million to pay for required improvements to Colorado’s gold-covered capitol dome.

The effort is dubbed “Share In The Care.”

The legislative committee is to consider a fund-raising contract for “Share in the Care” with nonprofit Colorado Preservation Inc., consider an emergency supplemental budget request for the project from State Architect Larry Friedberg, and appoint members to a “cause-marketing” review task force.

The cast iron superstructure of Colorado’s capitol is said to be rusting to the point that an architectural inspection team declared that “the potential loss of strength as a result of deterioration is a significant hazard to the building and it occupants.”    - More -
