DPS board member Andrea Merida faces possible recall

A group of Denver residents has begun the first recall effort against a Denver school board member in modern times, hoping to oust Andrea Merida, who was elected in November.

City officials have until Thursday to approve the petition and validate whether people who are behind the effort are eligible voters in Merida's district.

The preliminary petition seeks Merida's ouster on "grounds of unethical conduct and unbecoming behavior of an elected public official."

The reason for the recall attempt, Silva said, is because Merida was paid consulting fees by Andrew Romanoff's Senate campaign while she was attacking the former administration of U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet in school-board meetings and other forums.     - More -
