Election Day in Colorado

After months of non-stop television ads, countless stump speeches and enough mailers to make postal workers eye retirement, the 2010 election will end tonight.

Colorado voters will pick a new governor, make the final call in a tight U.S. Senate race and could mount an Election Day tax revolt with three state ballot measures aimed at shrinking government. Voters also will decide the balance of power in the state General Assembly.

The U.S. Senate race pits incumbent Democrat Michael Bennet against Republican Ken Buck. Polls show the two running in a dead heat and forces for both sides are trying to get their supporters to the ballot box.

Meanwhile, the governor’s race with Democrat John Hickenlooper, Republican Dan Maes and third-party hopeful Tom Tancredo may be the oddest election contest in Colorado history.

None of the men were expected to be on the ballot a year ago.    More -
