Legislative Leaders Prepare For Leadership Transfer

In the wake of Tuesday’s election, Colorado’s Capitol complex will play host Thursday to at least three legislative caucus meetings at which leadership is scheduled to be selected.

The meetings are:

* House Republicans, tentatively in the majority with an apparent 33 seats, will caucus at 10 a.m in the Legislative Services Building Conference Room A. The LSB is at 200 E. 14th Ave., across the street from the capitol.

* House Democrats, tentatively in the minority with an apparent 32 seats, will caucus at 9:30 a.m. in the capitol’s House Committee Room 0112.

* Senate Democrats, in the majority, will caucus at 9 a.m. in the capitol’s Senate Committee Room 356.

Caucus details weren’t immediately available for Senate Republicans, who continue in the minority.

The Republicans’ odds-on favorite for House speaker is Frank McNulty, R-Highlands Ranch, who engineered the GOP’s tentative six-seat gain in 2010, giving it a slender majority. Amy Stephens, R-Monument, likely will be selected as minority leader.

On the Democratic side, three people are said to have an interest in the top spot, which at this point would be House minority leader. The three are Andy Kerr, D-Lakewood; Claire Levy, D-Boulder, and Christine Scanlan, D-Breckenridge. The No. 2 position would be assistant majority leader.   – More -
