Student voter apathy may return to pre-2008 levels

As the polls open in Tuesday's midterm elections, many political groups are already speculating whether college students will turn out or once again be the apathetic demographic.

Some at the University of Colorado said they expect fewer students to vote this year because negative campaigns might have turned off young voters.

Gregory Carlson, a CU senior and president of the College Republicans, said the campus seems to have run out of steam this election cycle.

"I served as an election judge for early voting at the Rec Center, and it seemed pretty slow to me," Carlson said. "I think part of the reason turnout will be lower is because Obama's name is not on the ballot, but I know the Republican students are really excited and will be coming out in large numbers to vote."   - More -
