Ali Hasan switches parties - Jockeying for political position?

The Colorado Independent reports that Muhammad Ali Hasan, a member of the wealthy Colorado Republican Hasan family and a past House District 56 and State treasurer candidate, has announced that he is switching political parties.

No big surprise there. Hasan has been a very vocal critic of the Republican party since his failure to obtain the state treasurer’s nomination earlier this year.

The question is why is he choosing now to make the change?

Hasan says that he met recently with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the controversial Democratic leader won him over.

Many in Colorado are wondering if he is eyeing the House District 56 vacancy.

The HD56 seat is being vacated by Rep. Christine Scanlan, who has been appointed to Gov.-elect Hickenlooper’s cabinet.

It was Scanlan that Hasan ran against for the HD56 seat in 2008.

A replacement must be found within 30 days of Scanlan's resignation from the seat. Currently the chair of the House District 56 Committee is setting up a meeting of committee members to make a decision on a replacement.

Coincidently, Muhammad Ali Hasan is now a Democrat with residency in the District

  1. Maybe his parents money can buy him a political seat with the dems.

He's nothing more than a spoiled brat with a taste for power.

  2. The vacancy committee is meeting Sunday to pick Scanlan's replacement. Interested parties who want to apply for the vacancy had to submit their letters of interest by December 2.

  5. Two words... Political Opportunist.

The GOP wasn't buying what he was selling so he's off to the Dems to see what he can get with them.
