From sitcom writer to the Governors Mansion

So what do you do with your life when you have failed at being a sitcom writer? That’s right, you become the Governor of Colorado.

The Durango Herald reports that before he was elected governor, before he became a brewpub pioneer, John Hickenlooper tried to be a sitcom writer.

“If you really want to see something that’s not funny, read one of my sitcom scripts,” Hickenlooper said Monday in an interview.

He nearly sold a script to “Moonlighting,” the 1980s comedy starring Cybill Shepherd and Bruce Willis. It was one stop on a long journey that saw him transform himself in much the same way he wants to transform the state of Colorado.
