Skorman officially running for Colorado Springs mayor

Richard Skorman officially announced his candidacy for Colorado Springs mayor at a news conference held on Tuesday. Skorman pledged to “stabilize and then strengthen city services” and to be “the jobs mayor.”

“The infrastructure and the basic services the city provides aren’t sexy,” Skorman continued. “But they’re critical for our citizens, our quality of life and for the viability of our city.”

Skorman’s announcement was attended by a large crowd of supporters, including current Vice Mayor Larry Small, former City Council member Jim Null, former Manitou Mayor Marcy Morrison and Hall of Fame Yankee pitcher Richard “Goose” Gossage.

Skorman, who is a former Colorado Springs vice mayor and city council member, has been able to raise $21,000 in just the past 30 days. In former races, Skorman has been able to attract hundreds of small contributors. During his second campaign for city council in 2003, he was able to raise more than any other council candidate.
