State Regulation coming to a ‘Bounce House’ near you

Bouncy castles and slides—a fun amusement for kids often found at fairs and backyard birthday parties—are not currently regulated by the state government, and Democratic state Sen. Lucia Guzman, of Denver, has introduced a measure to change that.

“You have to make sure that they are working properly,” said Guzman. “Right now, there isn’t any oversight of these devices.”

Senate Bill 75, introduced today, adds the inflatable devices to existing law that requires oversight of amusement park rides. The regulation would come out of the Division of Oil and Public Safety under the Department of Labor and Employment.

However, Republican Sen. Nancy Spence, of Centennial, says implementing such regulation may seem like a good idea but might create yet another regulatory hurdle without yielding the intended result—increased safety. More
