Colorado girls take over the State Capitol

Today, thirty-five girls, one from each state senate district will attend the first ever “Girls With Goals Day” at the Colorado State Capitol.

In honor of Women’s History Month and in light of the fact that our state leads the nation in the percentage of women in the legislature—41%— “Girls With Goals Day” was created.

For each girl, who was nominated by their own senator and school principal, the day will include breakfast, a “swearing in” as a “youth senator for the day,” shadowing her senator in the chamber for the day’s legislative proceedings, lunch with her senator, an interactive tour of the Capitol, activities to help stimulate her knowledge of politics and how to make her community a better place, and a mock session with “bills” the girls proposed themselves.

  1. Is there a similar program for boys?
Or is this an exclusionary thing to teach discrimination to the next generation of democrats?
