GOP lawmakers unveil health-care legislation

Republican lawmakers introduced the “Healthcare Opportunity & Patient Empowerment (HOPE) Act” Tuesday in the House.

The bill would allow Colorado to opt out of federal healthcare legislation by joining an interstate compact—an agreement Colorado would enter into with other states allowing for the opt-out if Congress approved the compact.

Republican House Majority Leader Amy Stephens of Monument; Majority Whip B.J. Nikkel of Loveland; and Senate Republican Minority Leader Mike Kopp of Littleton, say they are sponsoring this legislation to preserve Coloradans’ individual liberty and control over health-care decisions.
