Yesterday the Colorado Senate passed Senate Joint Resolution 11-043 designating September 27, 2011 as “First Responder Appreciation Day” in Colorado.
“It’s important we honor the people who put their lives on the line to protect the public,” said Senate sponsor Mark Scheffel, R-Parker. “Whether it’s a natural disaster or another emergency, these individuals stand ready to deal with these situations at a moment’s notice.”
Senate Joint Resolution 11-043 recognizes individuals, both career and volunteer, from police, fire, emergency medical services, search and rescue, and other organizations in the public safety sector.
“We must never forget the sacrifice these brave individuals make every day,” said Scheffel. “Whether they are volunteer or professional first responders, they sacrifice their own safety to ensure those around them are shielded from the effects of any emergency or disaster.”
