World War I Soldiers honored by Colorado Senate

Wednesday Senator Kevin Grantham, R-Canon City, honored the soldiers of the First World War with Senate Joint Resolution 11-034 recognizing April 6 as "Colorado Veterans of World War I Day"

“94 years ago today our nation entered into a conflict of which the world had never seen,” said Grantham. “A battle that crossed continents and brought forward a new generation of warfare that caused unspeakable carnage and destruction. It’s important we show our gratitude to the brave soldiers who gave so much for their country.”

Colorado contributed 42,898 men and women to the war effort; of those brave souls, 1,091 were killed or died of wounds received in battle.

“We must never forget the sacrifice of an entire generation of men and women who selflessly fought when they answered the call of their country,” concluded Grantham.
