One mini-mystery of last week was who paid for the TV ad attacking Republican governor candidate Scott McInnis over plagiarism revelations. The legal disclaimer on the ad said it was paid for by the Colorado Freedom Fund, and records indicated that was a 527 group formed a couple weeks earlier.
As I indicated last week, the clues pointed to Democratic groups, even though the ad is airing in the midst of the Republican primary. As it turns out, the ad was paid for with $100,000 from the Public Education Committee, an arm of the Colorado Education Association; $100,000 from the Democratic Governors Association; and $58,000 from Fort Collins philanthropist Pat Stryker, one of the nation's largest donors to Democratic causes. That information is contained in a campaign finance report made public this week. - More -
