Grimm defeats Christner in Adams County treasurer race

Brigitte Grimm is Adams County's new treasurer. In unofficial final results posted Wednesday night, Grimm had 52,435 votes (51 %) to current treasurer Diane Christner's 50,145 votes (48.8 %).

Grimm took the lead in the first round of election results released by the county and never relinquished it.

Grimm, 50, is the director of finance and accounting for a teleconferencing company and co-owner of a small business in Thornton.

Grimm said she chose to run as the Republican candidate for treasurer this summer because she believes the lack of experience by Christner cost taxpayers money.

Diane Christner's re-election campaign was dogged by allegations of  felony embezzlement late in the campaign.  The allegations were related to Christner's use of a county printer to print campaign materials, which she admitted she did.  Christner said she reimbursed the county for the expense. Grimm asked the district attorney's office to investigate the allegations but no criminal charges were recommended.
